Nova Scotia is for Money Savers

Submitted by Kim on Saturday, 10 October 20095 Comments

BlomidonAn overlooked  reason why people visit Nova Scotia is that you can get to so many sights and have dozens of great experiences within a small area. And wherever you are in Nova Scotia you are never more than 50 kilometers from the ocean. And this is a money saver n car rental, fuel and your vacation time.

In most case the decision on where to travel has a lot to do with how you want to travel. This sets the budget.  For example:

  • Are you camping or staying in five-star hotels?
  • Are you going to be dining in restaurants for every meal or buying food and preparing it yourself?
  • Are you renting an RV or car, or are you taking a motor coach tour?

Arriving in Nova Scotia by train, plane or bus you will undoubtedly find that Halifax is the central point. This is because you have the choice of traveling north and south from this point. But don’t just plan to do stay here for the the whole vacation because Nova Scotia is much more than Halifax.

Accommodations are the most flexible of costs wherever you go. And staying in Halifax may be expensive depending on the time of year but a five-minute ferry ride away across the harbour is Dartmouth where the accommodations are cheaper. Here, there are bed and breakfasts that start at $50 but if you are a backpacker this is a lot of money. These people and other campers can go to Shubie Park, just outside Dartmouth, and still take in Halifax without a car. They simply take the bus to Alderney Gate and then the ferry across the harbour to Halifax.

For heading south there some great hostels and motels that are in expensive. Campers can set up at Kejimkujik National Park and take day trips to the Lunenburg area on the Atlantic Ocean and then Annapolis Royal on the Bay of Fundy. On the southern tip, Yarmouth is an overnight trip.

Two hours north of Halifax you can book a cottage on the Northumberland Strait, the warmest salt water north of the Carolinas. The cottages start at$90 a night and the warm water is free.

Just across the Causeway, Cape Breton accommodations are some of the best in the country and golf or hiking in the Highlands are popular outdoor activities. The biggest draw are the tours around the Cabot Trail from Baddeck wher you can stop in Sydney and visit historic Fort Louisburg.

You can sample Nova Scoti a on a shoe string in a few days or take a summer and really explore the province.

Hey – good stuff you have there! I recently booked a trip to Nova Scotia thanks to some great deals I was able to find. If you are planning a trip trip there make sure you use the travel meta-search site 1000travelsites.com to find the best prices on flights and hotels. They search pretty much every travel provider on the web in a matter of seconds. It’s the best site for finding the lowest price (and it’s free). I saved 60% on my hotel.

Nova Scotia is certainly not somewhere i had considered going before. However after reading this post it has made me seriously consider it. Especially since Jimmy managed to get such a great deal on the hotel.

I once stayed in a holiday home in Scotland and the experience was just great! If i could get something similar up in nova scotia that would be just great! Since my holiday in Scotland i now prefer the idea of staying in a holiday home.

Great information here. Thanks a lot!
