Cruiseliner “Queen Victoria” Graces Halifax

Submitted by Kim on Sunday, 4 October 2009No Comment

cruiseshipThe MV “Queen Victoria” made its inaugural visit to Halifax on Friday the 2nd. Although carrying 1993 passengers she is nowhere near the capacity of other cruise liners the “QV” makes up for it in luxury and opulence.

The “QV” is similar in design as other passenger vessels although, being a “blue water vessel,” it slightly longer and looks more like the old-style ocean liners than the other cruisers.

The interior is where she scores the points. More in keeping with Cunard’s interior style the “QV” is like her sister, “Queen Mary 2″ with seven restaurants, three swimming pools, a grand ballroom and a theaters. At 90,000 gross tons she is the second-largest liner ever built by Cunard.

As well the “QV” scores in service. For the nearly 2,000 passsengers ther are over 1,000 personnel. The theater is something that would be found on Broadway.

Captain NcNaught surpirsed the local reporters when he got irritated when asked about the environmental concerns of large ships coming into Halifax Harbour.  Later he said the ship complied with the ISO 14001 certified environemtal management system.
