Baddeck is the Place for Fall and Flight
In all of Nova Scotia there are few places that have as much going on in one place as Baddeck in Cape Breton. ‘s location is at the beginning and the end of the Cabot trail, one of the most beautiful fall drives in the world.
Situated on a genuine inland sea Baddeck is a big draw for sailing craft of all sizes. It also was the summer home of inventor Alexander Graham Bell and there is a world-class museum dedicated to the man who invented the telephone and the hydrofoil. In fact Baddeck Bay was the testing ground for the famous watercraft.
As a place to stay Baddeck has over 600 rooms however it still retains the essence of a quaint, Maritime village. The accommodations there suit any from luxurious suites to campgrounds. Fine dining can be found in any one of the many restaurants that offer everything from Nova Scotia lobster to a seafood chowder . For those who like to shop there are numerous shops including boutiques, craft, gift, music, and outdoor & sporting shops.
This year Baddeck is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the first flight in Canada and the British Empire. The Silver Dart Centennial Association has put on year-long programs of events and activities that highlight this birth place of aviation. Some of these events include:
- Youth in Aviation Week,
- Silver Dart Centennial Air show,
- Aerial Experimental Association display
- Silver Dart Centennial Aviation week at Alexander Graham Bell national Historic Site
- Bell Kite Festival
- Harvest Home Picnic.
These events have been going on all year-long and now the autumn caps off the best of Baddeck.
