Fall Is Nova Scotia Wine Time

Submitted by Kim on Friday, 11 September 20093 Comments

Locally vinted wines are becoming popular on store shelves  all across Canada. In fact the Nova Scotia wine industry and provincial government have come up with a plan to double the number of wineries from 10 to 20 and increase the acres of grapes grown from 400 to 1,000, by 2020.

In view of this, Nova Scotia winegrowers are planning the next steps in securing a presence for Nova Scotia wine on the world stage. And there’s no better time to see working wineries than in the fall when they harvest is brought in.

I’ve taken all of my summer visitors on wine tours this year in the Annapolis Valley and visited Jost for their anniversary. I am totally amazed at the quality and variety of wines that are being produced in Nova Scotia fruity, flavourful, layered, nuanced, eminantly drinkable and enjoyable. I serve nothing else to my guests these days. The variety of events in the fall wine festival is amazing and it fits every budget from free tastings at the NSLCs and special menus with food and wine parings at local restaurants to overnight getaways and five course gourmet meals. NS wines rock!

My thoughts exactly, Veronica. Fall brings out the wine lover in all of us!

While our historic inn DesBarres Manor takes pride in an extensive wine list that has won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, no time of year brings greater sense of place than fall when we host our nightly five course tasting dinners paired with Nova Scotia wines. Guests are delighted with the quality and variety as Veronica said and there is something special that happens when local cuisine meets local wine. A truly delicious time of year in Nova Scotia.
