cabot trail, cape breton highlandsYou always know that fall is around the corner in the Maritimes when you begin to read about Celtic Colours International Festival. A mainstay in Cape Breton since 1997, the Festival has brought in hundreds of musicians from Cape Breton and all over the Celtic world as well as attracting tens of thousands of visitors to Cape Breton Island.

Beginning on the 9th of October Cape Breton Island will be the base of a unique celebration of music and culture lasting nine days as the Celtic Colours International Festival hosts dozens of concerts all over the island. In addition there will be workshops, a visual art displays and a nightly Festival Club.

From 1997 on artists have travelled from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, Brittany, Spain, Denmark, Germany, and Cuba. Not only that they have come from the United States and all across Canada: musicians, singers, dancers, storytellers and tradition-bearers.

One of the things that sets the Cape Breton festival apart from other festivals  around the world is that it isn’t limited to just one location. Many communities around the island host the events with a background of fall leaves  at their most brilliant. So traveling around the island offers continuous, breathtaking views over hundred of kilometers. Not only that the venues will be held in places where many of the songs were composed.

The venues for the Celtic Colours range from an 18th Century French Chapel to brand-new performance facility. Music will flow from community halls, fire halls and the open air.
