Buskers Rule Halifax for 23 Years

Submitted by Kim on Monday, 10 August 2009No Comment

buskers, buskingThe long-awaited Halifax International Busker Festival opened for its 23rd year as the revered street performances began last Thursday, August 6th and will continue to August 16th. The art of “Busking” sees entetainers from jugglers to comedians practising their trade on street level.

Buskers perform on the street for a variety of reasons:

  • Money
  • Meeting people,
  • Attention
  • Travel
  • The love of their performing their skills.

Many buskers only work part time but others you’ll see on the Halifax waterfront make a living performing full time on the streets. A busker’s income depends on many conditions:

  • The type and quality of the performance
  • Type of the audience
  • Weather
  • Location
  • Time of day
  • Competition with other nearby buskers

This year come from all a round the globe and feature acts like from “Bike Boy” – an acrobatic bicycle comedy stunt man – to “FlameOz,” a high energy fire shows. But I shouldn’t forget the hopping sensation “Pogo Dudes,” and the ever popular “Phantastyk!” returns.

You’ll have to get down to Halifax to see the rest!
