Catch “Catch: The Nova Scotia Seafood Festival”

lobster dinner, lobster restaurantWhen many people think of Nova Scotia they go beyond the lighthouses, kilts and whales and go right for the seafood. Why? It could be because Nova Scotia lands more lobster than the rest of the world put together and this can also be said for those huge scallops. The vast majority are fished but a large aquaculture industry has also grown in the province.

Held at the Cunard Centre on June 27th and 28th Catch is intended to be a showcase of Nova Scotia seafood products and the culinary trends of preparing it that is unique to this area. Not only will you be able to sample the food you can:

  • Learn the latest culinary techniques in preparing seafood
  • Collect new recipes
  • Wander through the shopping area
  • Sample outstanding food and wine

Festival Highlights

1.  Seafood Sensations Culinary Theatre (presented by Taste of Nova Scotia)

Enjoy the opportunity to learn great recipes and meet local and international food personalities - Anna Olson of the Food Network Food writers demo. Taste of Nova Scotia Restaurant chefs will also be on hand.

2.  Great Catch Chef Competition

Famous local chef Ray Bear will host the GREAT CATCH Chef Competition! This action-packed culinary showdown will include some of Canada’s top restaurants and chefs!

3.  Nova Scotia Pavillion

See what’s going on in Nova Scotia this year and next from tours to new tourism products.

4.  Kid’s Cove

Captain Catch and his crew will bring the fishing industruy to light in a great show that features pirate stories, fishing tales and shipboard games.

5.  Tutored Tastings

This is presented by Mark DeWolfe, a local sommelier featuring Hooked on Wine and Hooked on Beer. Fabulous fish and wine parings are also demonstrated.

6.  Wine Country Lounge

This is sponsored by the Winery Association of Canada

7.  Live Entertainment

  • GoodOnYa - Peter Harrison, Kevin MacAleese and Steve Dooks have been performing together for over ten years. GoodOnYa is a great pub style band with a repertoire consisting of traditional styled Nova Scotia tunes plus the latest in contemporary pop music.
  • Dave MacIsaac and Louie Benoit on the fiddle and guitar, specialize in Celtic music and provide a world-class atmosphere.
  • Kate Quinn – Fabulous Halifax singer, light jazz and adult contemporary.
  • John Chiasson – John Chiasson’ s 1997 release of Here in the Moonlight marked his professional debut as vocalist. On record and in concert, Chiasson presents his audience with a pleasant, accessible form of jazz that draws on a variety of styles including Latin, Swing, and Blues.
