Lobster Palooza One of North America’s “100-Best Events”

Submitted by Kim on Friday, 12 June 2009One Comment

lobster02It only took 3 years for a Cape Breton tourism idea to capture the attention (and imagination) of international tourism watchers. Lobster Palooza, a festival that sees people touring the Cabot Trail and sampling some fine seafood cuisine has earned the recognition of the American Bus Association as one of the top 100 events in North America.

logo_abaIn an unprecedented exercise in imagination Lobster Palooza takes a ho-hum tourism month, June, and combines seafood and scenery for 185-mile tour of the Trail accenting the palette.  This includes almost every type of transportation and attraction: church lobster suppers, boat tours, whale watching expeditions, waking tours,  pub nights and Gaelic festivals. And there are many more Cape Breton delights to keep people in a state of wonder and well-fed.

One of the reasons why this idea works is the backdrop of Cape Breton, itself. There are few places in the world where so many different scenes are exhibited within such a short period of travel t6hat it’s literally like a movie on Imax only longer and more vivid.

The core theme is “101 delights’ and Cape Breton can offer these and many more. And the other is the seafood, especially the lobster. Fresh from the ocean the touring person can enjoy in-season lobster, mussels, scallops, clams, swordfish, haddock salmon and other ocean varieties. You can add to this hundreds of special recipes found nowhere else in the world and you have a “food cruise” like no other.

Here is just one week’s events in the festival:
