Swine Flu – Another Tourism Scare for Nova Scotia

Submitted by Kim on Monday, 27 April 20092 Comments

cdcJanet Naplitano is presently on PBS relating how she is single-handedly handling the swine flu “crisis.” Because anything bad that happens around the U.S. is automatically put under Homeland Security this “Newbie” is the first one on the screen. (And she is on before the Center for Disease Control  lady, Rear Admiral Dr. Anne Schuchat! )It’s now up to 40 infected in the U.S. but they are all okay. Ms. Neapolitano should leave the expert opinons to the experts.

Now, because 4 kids from Kings-Edgehill private school (coming back from a trip to Mexico) are affected there is an implied advisory not the visit Nova Scotia. This was not said directly but here is what was actually said: “The U.S. government is advising their citizens not to travel to ‘affected areas.”

So what does this have to do with Nova Scotia? The 4 mildl-affected students (under quarantine as the whole school is now) represent a pandemic in Canada. Because if the U.S. citizens are constantly reminded (and wrongly so) that Canada is “Al Qaeda North America” then how will these mis-directed people realize that only a handful of people in a private school in Nova Scotia are infected and not the whole nation?

The CDC , Dr. Ann Schuchat, is concerned but she is saying that the three countries – U.S., Mexico, and Canada – are working well together to control this. However, the flu report caused the Dow to dive 58 points. Go figure!

Is the flu dangerous? Yes it is, and should be treated very seriously. However, it should not be used to paint Nova Scotia as an infected area.
