Submitted by Kim on Wednesday, 22 April 2009No Comment

k_keithsAlexander Keith’s Pale India Ale, the nectar of Nova Scotia, is going to be brewed out west in heart of Kokanee Country, Creston British Columbia. The famed Columbia Brewery, bought and bastardized by Labatts in the 1970′s, will brew Keiths for the BC., Alberta and Saskatchewan markets.

Alexander Keith’s India Pale Ale was originally brewed for British troops serving in India.  It was the special ingredients and the preservative effect of hops that was credited with keeping beer fresh on the long voyage across the Atlantic Ocean and the coast of Africa. then it was around the Cape of Good Hope and into the Indian Ocean.

India pale ale soon became the favourite of British troops all over the Empire. With so many soldiers stationed in Halifax allowed up to 1 gallon  of beer a day for a ration Keith began brewing India Pale Ale in 1820 under his own name.

As the commercial goes” “It’s our beer, around here!”
