tallshipsThere is nothing quite like the sight of  sail-laden masts on the horizon. The thrill of seeing a ship come into port today is as exciting as it was 150 years ago and this July, from the 10th to 17th,  tall ship from the United States, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, Barbados, Uruguay, Bermuda and the United Kingdom will glide into Halifax harbour.

The 200 International gathering of tallships doesn’t end in Halifax. Other ports in Nova Scotia will enjoy tall ships right up to the 1st of August. Luosibourg, Sydney, Pictou, Pugwash, Port Hawkesbury and Lunenburg will also host part of this armada.

The other great attraction for the tall ships are the sailors, themselves. Over 200 crew will be manning these ships and this is 2000 different interpretations of life at sea. Children always get a thrill out of seeing real, old-time sailors in their traditional uniforms and asking them questions.

As an added bonus for the kids is a pirate, Roger Mack, and his Royal Navy sea captain nemesis, Captain John.

Tickets are available at participating Superstores or directly at: Tall Ships 2009.
