Nova Scotia Tourism Statistics: 2008

Last year big gas prices and a teetering economy penetrated the Nova Scotia tourism industry. Ian Fairclough of the Halifax Chronicle-Herald put together some sobering numbers. But, believe it not, things are looking a lot better for 2009.
Two million-one hundred-thousand (2,100,000) people came to Nova Scotia last year and here is the breakdown:
Cruise Ships: 228 to Halifax and 76 to Cape Breton
Campgrounds: 785,000 site nights sold – + 5%
Accommodations
- South Shore: 189,000: +1%
- Halifax: 1,400,000: +4%
- Eastern Shore: 24,000: +1%
- Cape Breaton: 398,9000: -4%
- Northumberland Shore: 197,000: -1%
- Funday and Annapolis Valley: 341,000: -3%

The good news is that many tourism partners have embraced the new social media forms and are tweeting to beat the band. So let’s see what next year brings.
