Haligonia.ca: Showcasing Halifax Up-Close and Online

Submitted by Kim on Sunday, 22 March 2009No Comment

When I first landed on haligonia.ca I saw a basketball game streaming in progress on the sidebar, the Halifax Rainmen versus the Millrats with Sean “Mavs” Gillis doing the play-by-play. Right after the game there was an interviewer asking locals in the downtown about the news items that pertain directly to them: minimum wage, bus schedules, etc.

Haligonia.ca is a new and local online broadcaster that combines internet and television media with “drive-by reality interviewing.” The  result is that everyone who lands on the site gets a good shot of what the locals are discussing. Right below the banner are “Tweets” that let everyone know what’s going on in Cyberspace. The folks at haligonia.ca are not trying to be like traditional television nor another website. It’s a new online broadcast medium.

“that provides a unique window of opportunity for you to have your say, see and be seen (and heard!). It brings back LOCAL and and gives people like you a voice.”

Haligonia.ca focuses on “immediate” current affairs, entertainment, community news, reviews, business, music, fashion and beauty.
They are looking for volunteers (as in free) videographers and hosts who want to make their mark on the city. User-donated webcam footage is also welcome. Contact their content editor, Ashley King @ ashley@haligonia.ca

In my idea, you can flip open you laptop at the Halifax airport and have the city cased before you get across the bridge!
