liscombe lodge, nova scotia

Every now and then I like to give a salute to some of the great operators in the Nova Scotia tourism industry. Liscombe Lodge Resort and Conference Centre along Nova Scotia’s picturesque Marine Drive is one of these places and I think it is the best kept secrets in Atlantic Canada.

A Natural Setting

At Liscombe Lodge you’re right on the beautiful Liscombe River which offers not only a fabulous view but canoing and river rides. This natural setting makes it easy to get close and personal with wildlife in the area with the sound of the river as great background music. At certain times of the year you can watch eagles, osprey and kingfishers or see moose wade out into the waterway.

Whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat or a fun-filled family holiday, Liscombe Lodge has great accommodations offering 17 private chalets, each with a sitting area, fireplace and veranda. Five four- bedroom cottages each with private four- piece bath, common living room and stone fireplace, and 30 river-view lodge rooms with private balcony.

Nothing is more relaxing than a peaceful afternoon spent on the Liscomb River. It’s your choice how you enjoy the view: a harbour tour on their 12 passenger tour boat, a quiet canoe trip up river or paddle boating out to nearby Riley’s Island.

On shore you can enjoy a game of tennis or shuffleboard on the Lodge grounds. Bike along country roads or hike along our nature trails. Scenic spots like the waterfalls on the Liscomb River Trail are just perfect for a picnic which can be packed for you. Also, a visit to nearby Sherbrooke Village, a living museum of life in the 1800s, is a trip the whole family will enjoy.

The food is great too, with traditional planked salmon as the house specialty. It’s prepared in the traditional, native way, slowly cooked on a maple plank outdoors in full view of waiting diners.

How to get There

Proceed toward Halifax on Highway #102. Take the Halifax- Dartmouth “via the bridges” exit ( Highway #118 to Highway #107 ). Proceed to the first set of stop lights ( Tim Horton’s is on your right ). Turn left on Highway #107 and proceed to Musquodoboit Harbour on #107 (Highway #107 ends here). Turn right on Highway #7 and proceed along Highway #7 through Musquodoboit Harbour then Sheet Harbour and on to Liscomb Mills. The entrance is located on the right side of the road prior to the Liscomb River.

You are so right about this being one of Nova Scotias best kept secrets. Hubby and I first visited about 8 years ago and loved it so much that we got here and plan to come back to celebrate an anniversary! It is certainly a romantic retreat.

    Great find.
