Rendezvous Canada 2008 – Vancouver
TIAC, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada meets in Vancouver this May for Canada’s huge tourism showcase, Rendezvous Canada. This is an awesome event and is moved around the country every year. This year it is in the city hosting the 2010 winter Olympics, Vancouver.
As in every year since the events of 2001 unfolded TIAC and its members will be discussing the downturn in tourism from foreign spots, especially the U.S.
Rendezvous Canada is not a traditional trade show it is like a “farmer’s market” for tourism interests. Here’s why:
1) Sellers: Those who are there to market their products are put together with people already looking for them whereas at a trade show buyers circulate freely and sellers try to attract them like circus barkers.
2) Buyers: For buyers there is convenience and cost-effectiveness are major advantages: they can access sellers from all regions of Canada in one place, at one time, and for a reasonable price.
In essence RVC organizers are committed to providing the specific products that buyers from different international markets say they require,and offer special incentives for sellers who have developed new products. Here are the advantages;
- Generate leads and increase sales: Many of the 1500 attendees will be tourism industry decision-makers and influencers, including CEOs and business owners;
- Shorten sales cycles: Last year, RVC facilitated over 22,000 marketplace meetings;
- Generate revenue by closing and progressing existing deals (recent figures indicate that over $350 million in sales are negotiated at RVC each year)
- Take advantage of invaluable networking opportunities with customers, industry experts, peers and tourism executives.
This is great opportunity to get to know Canadian operators and to sell into Canadian markets. Like the Aussies, Canadians are travelers and destination countries have the opportunity to show their wares to a focused market.
