78th Highlanders – Pipe & Drum Band/Re-enactors

Submitted by Kim on Sunday, 20 January 2008No Comment

Based at the Citadel, a star-shaped fort in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the 78th Highland Regiment is one of the most famous Scottish military units. Clad in MacKenzie kilts, they held sway at the Citadel from 1869 till 1871.

78th Highlanders, citadel

The highly trained 78th Highland Regiment features a pipe and drum band and an historical military drill squad capable of mounting sentries, Guards of Honour, and foot and arms drill demonstrations in true historical fashion.

You can see the Highlanders every summer up at the Halifax Citadel. They are college students who earn their way living and reacting the way the original Scottish troops lived. The big show for the 78th Highlanders is the Nova Scotia tattoo held in the first week of July every year. Further information is available by contacting the Tattoo’s Marketing Manager, Thomas Grotrian at (902) 420-1114 or tgrotrian@nstattoo.ca
