Armand F. Wigglesworth, C.M., B.E.M., C.D.
No one has written about the South Shore and, especially Queens’ County, more than Armand Wigglesworth, a freelance writer and the author of four books. His work includes Anecdotes of Queens County, NS, which is a four volume collection of some of his weekly Off The Cuff columns of charming anedocates and stories on everything from steam pumps to chamber pots.
Armand began his freelance career after retiring to Queens County in 1983 from a management career in Nova Scotia and Ontario as a senior federal civil servant. He contributes a regular weekly column for the Liverpool Advance as well as many feature articles for The Halifax Herald’s Nova Scotian section.
Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Armand’s interest in journalism began when he was 17. He wrote a regular sports column for the local paper and soon became sports editor and correspondant for the Halifax Chronicle-Herald. He then served five years with the RCAF in World War II and was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1945. Later he received the Order of St. John, the Coronation Medal, Centennial Medal, the CD and two bars, the Order of Lazarus and in 1994 the Order of Canada and the 125 Anniversay Medal. He then served post-war, the Canadian Forces Militia, commanding the 14th Field Regiment, RCA, serving as The Honourary Colonel, 28 (Ottawa) Service Battalion and the Hon.L/Col. of the 84th Field Battery RCA (M). He is a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with Palm Leaf. Armand lives in Port Mouton, NS.
